Daniel
6: 1-3
1 It pleased Darius to set over the kingdom one hundred and twenty satraps,
to be over the whole kingdom; 2 and over these, three governors, of whom
Daniel was one, that the satraps might give account to them, so that
the king would suffer no loss. 3 Then this Daniel distinguished himself
above the governors and satraps, because an excellent spirit was in him;
and the king gave thought to setting him over the whole realm.
Matthew 18:23-35 (New King James Version)
23
Therefore the kingdom of heaven is like a certain king who wanted to
settle accounts with his servants. 24 And when he had begun to settle
accounts, one was brought to him who owed him ten thousand talents.
25 But as he was not able to pay, his master commanded that he be sold,
with his wife and children and all that he had, and that payment be
made. 26 The servant therefore fell down before him, saying, ‘Master,
have patience with me, and I will pay you all.’ 27 Then the master
of that servant was moved with compassion, released him, and forgave
him the debt.
28 “But that servant went out and found one of his fellow servants
who owed him a hundred denarii; and he laid hands on him and took him
by the throat, saying, ‘Pay me what you owe!’ 29 So his fellow
servant fell down at his feet[a] and begged him, saying, ‘Have
patience with me, and I will pay you all.’[b] 30 And he would not,
but went and threw him into prison till he should pay the debt. 31 So
when his fellow servants saw what had been done, they were very grieved,
and came and told their master all that had been done. 32 Then his master,
after he had called him, said to him, ‘You wicked servant! I forgave
you all that debt because you begged me. 33 Should you not also have
had compassion on your fellow servant, just as I had pity on you?’ 34
And his master was angry, and delivered him to the torturers until he
should pay all that was due to him.
35 “So My heavenly Father also will do to you if each of you, from
his heart, does not forgive his brother his trespasses.”[c]
Matthew
25:14-30
14 “For the kingdom of heaven is like a man traveling to a far
country, who called his own servants and delivered his goods to them.
15 And to one he gave five talents, to another two, and to another one,
to each according to his own ability; and immediately he went on a journey.
16 Then he who had received the five talents went and traded with them,
and made another five talents. 17 And likewise he who had received two
gained two more also. 18 But he who had received one went and dug in
the ground, and hid his lord’s money. 19 After a long time the
lord of those servants came and settled accounts with them.
20 “So he who had received five talents came and brought five other
talents, saying, ‘Lord, you delivered to me five talents; look,
I have gained five more talents besides them.’ 21 His lord said
to him, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant; you were faithful
over a few things, I will make you ruler over many things. Enter into
the joy of your lord.’ 22 He also who had received two talents
came and said, ‘Lord, you delivered to me two talents; look, I
have gained two more talents besides them.’ 23 His lord said to
him, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant; you have been faithful
over a few things, I will make you ruler over many things. Enter into
the joy of your lord.’
24 “Then he who had received the one talent came and said, ‘Lord,
I knew you to be a hard man, reaping where you have not sown, and gathering
where you have not scattered seed. 25 And I was afraid, and went and
hid your talent in the ground. Look, there you have what is yours.’
26 “But his lord answered and said to him, ‘You wicked and
lazy servant, you knew that I reap where I have not sown, and gather
where I have not scattered seed. 27 So you ought to have deposited my
money with the bankers, and at my coming I would have received back my
own with interest. 28 So take the talent from him, and give it to him
who has ten talents.
29 ‘For to everyone who has, more will be given, and he will have
abundance; but from him who does not have, even what he has will be taken
away. 30 And cast the unprofitable servant into the outer darkness. There
will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.

12:16-21 (New King James Version)
16
Then He spoke a parable to them, saying: “The ground of a certain
rich man yielded plentifully. 17 And he thought within himself, saying, ‘What
shall I do, since I have no room to store my crops?’ 18 So he
said, ‘I will do this: I will pull down my barns and build greater,
and there I will store all my crops and my goods. 19 And I will say
to my soul, “Soul, you have many goods laid up for many years;
take your ease; eat, drink, and be merry.”’ 20 But God
said to him, ‘Fool! This night your soul will be required of
you; then whose will those things be which you have provided?’
21 “So is he who lays up treasure for himself, and is not rich

Luke
14:28-30 (New King James Version)
28 For which of you, intending to build a tower, does not sit down first
and count the cost, whether he has enough to finish it— 29 lest,
after he has laid the foundation, and is not able to finish, all who
see it begin to mock him, 30 saying, ‘This man began to build and
was not able to finish’?
Luke
16:1-8 (New King James Version)
1 He also said to His disciples: “There was a certain rich man
who had a steward, and an accusation was brought to him that this man
was wasting his goods. 2 So he called him and said to him, ‘What
is this I hear about you? Give an account of your stewardship, for you
can no longer be steward.’
3 “Then the steward said within himself, ‘What shall I do?
For my master is taking the stewardship away from me. I cannot dig; I
am ashamed to beg. 4 I have resolved what to do, that when I am put out
of the stewardship, they may receive me into their houses.’
5 “So he called every one of his master’s debtors to him,
and said to the first, ‘How much do you owe my master?’ 6
And he said, ‘A hundred measures[a] of oil.’ So he said to
him, ‘Take your bill, and sit down quickly and write fifty.’ 7
Then he said to another, ‘And how much do you owe?’ So he
said, ‘A hundred measures[b] of wheat.’ And he said to him, ‘Take
your bill, and write eighty.’ 8 So the master commended the unjust
steward because he had dealt shrewdly. For the sons of this world are
more shrewd in their generation than the sons of light.

15:11-31 (New King James Version)
11 Then He said: “A certain man had two sons. 12 And the younger
of them said to his father, ‘Father, give me the portion of goods
that falls to me.’ So he divided to them his livelihood. 13 And
not many days after, the younger son gathered all together, journeyed
to a far country, and there wasted his possessions with prodigal living.
14 But when he had spent all, there arose a severe famine in that land,
and he began to be in want. 15 Then he went and joined himself to a citizen
of that country, and he sent him into his fields to feed swine. 16 And
he would gladly have filled his stomach with the pods that the swine
ate, and no one gave him anything.
17 “But when he came to himself, he said, ‘How many of my
father’s hired servants have bread enough and to spare, and I perish
with hunger! 18 I will arise and go to my father, and will say to him, “Father,
I have sinned against heaven and before you, 19 and I am no longer worthy
to be called your son. Make me like one of your hired servants.”’
20 “And he arose and came to his father. But when he was still
a great way off, his father saw him and had compassion, and ran and fell
on his neck and kissed him. 21 And the son said to him, ‘Father,
I have sinned against heaven and in your sight, and am no longer worthy
to be called your son.’
22 “But the father said to his servants, ‘Bring[a] out the

his feet. 23 And bring the fatted calf here and kill it, and let us eat
and be merry; 24 for this my son was dead and is alive again; he was
lost and is found.’ And they began to be merry.
25 “Now his older son was in the field. And as he came and drew
near to the house, he heard music and dancing. 26 So he called one of
the servants and asked what these things meant. 27 And he said to him, ‘Your
brother has come, and because he has received him safe and sound, your
father has killed the fatted calf.’
28 “But he was angry and would not go in. Therefore his father
came out and pleaded with him. 29 So he answered and said to his father, ‘Lo,
these many years I have been serving you; I never transgressed your commandment
at any time; and yet you never gave me a young goat, that I might make
merry with my friends. 30 But as soon as this son of yours came, who
